Indian Ocean(Click on the thumbnails for big photos or maps.) Reports at bottom The Indian Ocean was very kind to us, and our passages there seemed especially comfortable when compared with the changeable Pacific Ocean. The two long passages were very pleasant, with gentle conditions and beautiful weather. We enjoyed it as much as it is possible for us to enjoy passages, a time when you are constantly in motion and sharing a small space with five people. The Atlantic and Indian Oceans were our nicest crossings.Sri LankaWe were in Sri Lanka for about 10 days. We left the boat in Galle for a week long trip, traveling by train to the highlands, with tea plantations and cooler weather. The trains were very crowded and during all of the stops people came by yelling at the tops of their voices for us to buy their wares (mostly food). We hiked in the highlands, visited an elephant orphanage, and wandered around old forts. We enjoyed the Indian food and found the people for the most part very friendly. MaldivesWe spent eleven days in the Maldives; with some of time in Male, the capital; some the time in at a nearly island; and the last bit in Uligan, an island to the north. We found the people in Male unfriendly and we had a great hassle with our (required) agent checking in and locating our mail. The water was really clear, both near the town and in the outer islands. In the tiny town on Uligan people were much more friendly, and the beaches were great. Reports from the Indian Ocean with photos
