We are in the Greek islands, and have been for about
a week. Aside from our check in port we have only been to relatively
isolated, small islands. There are still tourists, of course, but not so
many that the locals hate the sight of us, thank goodness. Our check in
port, Simi, was very touristy and not very friendly, but most of the
towns we have been to are very small and feel very sleepy. It is quite
picturesque though, almost all of the houses are painted white with blue
trim. It is very Mediterranean, and white and blue are also the colors of
the Greek flag. There are old women sitting in doorways, lots of goats,
and tiny churches all over the place. The landscape seems to be almost
entirely hills. Almost everyone here rides motorcycles, and there are so
many different styles. Not a Harley to be seen though. Most of the time
we have been in Greece a strong wind has been blowing, so it has been
much cooler than Turkey. In Turkey it felt like we were back in the hot
parts of the Red Sea, and they declared a three day holiday due to heat.
Once again we were blessing our fans. The water here is much colder than
Turkey too, but we are still spending time with our new toy, the
windsurfer, or, to be proper, the sailboard. It is really great fun,
especially when you catch a puff and are able to use it to go creaming
along. Today Mom and Dad had a DJ (the windsurfer)-Emily race, but Mom in
Emily was able to win because that windsurfer just doesn't tack quickly.
