Bequia

Douglas March 2

Perky update: once in, we ran it, and found that it was drinking 1/2-1 Qt of oil per hour, Fixman deduced that there must be a leak, so we stretched some cardboard (boy have we used a ton of the stuff) under the engine, and traced the leak to the rear seal. It turns out that we had been shipped the wrong one, and the mechanic had put the engine back together again with the wrong seal inside! So now we are waiting for parts again. I am so sick of saying or hearing 'it could be a lot worse,' or 'Bequia sure is a nice place to be stuck.' We have stopped doing fun things like windsurfing now, seems like initiative kind of runs out after 7 WEEKS in one spot.

A couple of days ago, when we were testing the engine for the leak, we went down to Petit Nevis. We did a bit of snorkeling, which was the first time for me since the Red Sea. It felt really good to move, and the horizon beckoned as we motored back into good old Admiralty Bay. We keep looking at the Tobago Cays postcards longingly.

Oh well, hopefully by the time I write next we will have moved!!  -  Douglas
